About Our School
Principal's Message
Northeast Academy Arts Magnet is a K-5 school with approximately 400 students. As an intra-district magnet school, the majority of our population comes from neighborhood homes. Nearly 20% of our student body are magnet students who we happily welcome from various parts of Groton. All students at Northeast Academy are greeted each morning by many of the finest hard-working and passionate educators I’ve ever worked with. We believe in the power of teamwork and the partnership between home and school.
Groton’s shift to all magnet elementary schools has reinvigorated a focus on our theme – the arts. We continue to seek and develop working relationships with local groups such as the Mystic Museum of Art to support this meaningful work. Our staff has been hard at work in recent months reviewing and revising our school’s mission statement and continuing to identify purposeful opportunities during the school year to embed arts into core curriculum.
Our Journey to Success program focuses on personal traits and social development in important areas such as friendship, cooperation, self-control and determination. We have placed a strong focus on social-emotional needs and have a supportive team in place to assist all students. Professor’s Classroom assemblies, held on a monthly basis, celebrate our wonderful students and their commitment to our SEL initiatives.
At Northeast Academy we are respectful, responsible, honest and safe. We learn, achieve, and strive for our personal best. Those words are read every morning during announcements. I encourage you to talk to your child about our school pledge and what it means to them, particularly as it relates to their personal best. You might be surprised by what they have to say!
As the parent of two young boys, it is very important to me that your child feels safe and looks forward to coming to school. Communication is critical to student success. Please stop in to say hello or email me with any questions you may have. My door is always open.
Sincerely,
Ryan Chaney
