Back to School
A Message from Principal Chaney
It's almost time to head back to school! We may not be done with summer quite yet but I do want to share some important details about what to expect in the year ahead.
The first day of school for students in Grades 1-5 is Thursday, August 29th. Kindergarten and Transition Kindergarten begin one day later on Friday, August 30th.
We are excited about the school year ahead! School is a partnership and we are fortunate here in the NEA Community to have such a wonderful connection with our families
Below are some important back-to-school reminders. Please enjoy the remaining days of summer
Join us at at our annual Sneak Peak - Wednesday, August 28th at 2:00 p.m. Visit your new classroom and meet your new teacher!
Arrival and Dismissal and Attendance
- 9:00 is the start of the school day. 8:45 is when doors open for students. Tardy numbers were up again last year- please make every effort to get your child to school on time!
- Attendance matters. When your child is absent, please call the main office in the morning and send your child back to school with a note from home. Parents can excuse the first nine absences only. After that, notes must meet certain criteria.
- Parent Pickup procedures will remain the same this year. We will begin the process at 3:10 and continue to utilize the second traffic circle. Students will be escorted out to you in the order of your arrival. Drivers will be asked to show identification. Please stay in your car and proceed along carefully.
Bus Routes
- Please be sure to check updated bus routes on the Groton Public Schools (GPS) website. These are available now.
Teacher Assignments
- Teacher assignment letters for all students were recently placed in the mail. Please let us know if you do not receive one.
Summer Reading and Math
- Students who participated in our summer reading or math offerings should return their paperwork to school during the first few weeks.
Parent Connections and Communication
- ParentSquare will continue to be the primary tool for home-to-school communication across the district. Be sure to use your account!
- Parents looking to volunteer at NEA are welcome! Stay tuned for more information in September regarding required volunteer training sessions.
- Our wonderful PTO is always looking for new members. Please consider joining this fabulous team of dedicated parents!
Food Services, Snacks, and Classroom Celebrations
- Northeast Academy continues to be peanut and tree nut free. Please do not send your child to school with any peanut or tree nut products.
- We are continuing the practice of not allowing food from home for any in-class celebrations. Our food services department has a menu posted online to order from. Please coordinate with your child's classroom teacher. Orders must be placed one week in advance.
- Breakfast is no longer free. Meals will be either full pay or free - the free meal application can be found on the GPS main page.School Cafe is the new application being used to pay for meals at school. Be sure to load your child's account before school starts.
- Lunch menus are available online. The bento box (alternate lunch choice) for the first two weeks of school is the yogurt and muffin combo.
Before and After Care (Tree House)
- Tree House continues to run a before and after school care program here at NEA for our students. If you are interested in having your child attend, please call (860) 572-5852 extension 52133.
